Jamil Amirov

Jamil Amirov son of  Fikret was born on May 3, 1957 in the family of the famous Azerbaijani composer Fikret Amirov. In 1965-1975, he studied in the piano class at the secondary music school named after Bulbul. In 1975-1980, he graduated from the class of Covdat Hajiyev at the Faculty of Composition of State Conservatory named after Uzeyir Hajibeyov (now BMA). Then, in 1980-1982, he studied for post-graduate studies.

He  worked- Azerbaijan State Chamber Orchestra (1978-1983), as a piano and harpsichord player, head of the “Gobustan” variety-folk ensemble of the Azerbaijan Television and Radio Committee (1983-1985), soloist of the ensemble led by Rafig Babayev of the Azerbaijan State Television and Radio Committee (1985-1989) ), music director of the Azerbaijan State Theater “Mugam” (1989-1990), soloist of the ensemble of the Azerbaijan State Television and Radio Committee led by Rafik Babayev (1990-1991), soloist of the piano and harpsichord of the Azerbaijan State Chamber Orchestra, “Gaya” State pop- the music director of the symphony orchestra (1991-1992), the head of the Jazz club of the Baku City Culture Department (1992), the “Cangi” ensemble led by R. Babayev (1992-1995), the senior researcher of the scientific research laboratory of the BMA named after U. Hajibeyli ( from 2009 to the present day).

Jamil Amirov performance at World Festival of Youth and Students (Moscow, 1985), International Jazz Festival (Tbilisi, 1986), “Gaudemus” International Music Week (Bulgaria-1988, Netherlands-1989), World Festival of Ethno Music (Hamburg, 1999, Dakar, Senegal 1993), participant of the “Laughter” project, music director of the “SAVAB” ensemble (Baku, 2002), music director of the “SAVAB” ensemble at the World Festival of Ethnomusic (Istanbul, 2005), at the World Jazz Festival (Astana, 2006) and other music festivals.

He has composed music for a number of documentaries and animated films, plays, and is the author of instrumental music and songs for various ensembles. His articles about the life and works of F. Amirov and J. Hajiyev were published in several popular newspapers and magazines. He is the author of the anthology that consist of “Life’spages” and other works and this anthology was published by H.Aliyev Foundation. Jamil Amirov is the owner of honorary titles and awards-“Honored Artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan” (September 16, 2006), “People’s Artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan” (May 27, 2018), award of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan (May 6, 2016), (May 1, 2017), (May 9, 2018), ( May 10, 2019), the individual scholarship of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan (May 7, 2020)
