Abdul Alisa oghlu Mahmudbeyov (Sheikh Abdul) was born in Atbulag village of Hajigabul district. Originally from Shirvan-Gobustan region. He studied drama and film acting at the Azerbaijan State Theater Institute named after M.A. Aliyev (1962-1966-the class of People’s Artist of the USSR, professor Adil Iskenderov), at the director’s department of the Higher course of directing and screenwriters in Moscow (1971-1973, the workshop of Leonid Trauberg and Georgy Danelia). Since 1966, he worked as an actor in the “Azerbaijanfilm” film studio. He was the artistic director of the cinema-actor theater under the cinema studio. State award winner (1986), Honored art worker, People’s artist and President’s scholarship holder, winner of the Republic’s Main Film Award, Chairman of the Inspection Commission of the Azerbaijan Professional Film Directors Guild. He is a doctor of art of MYA.
