Jamil Farajov

Jamil Aligulu oglu Farajov was born on February 13, 1946 in Baku in an intellectual family. In 1964, after graduating from the 10th grade of secondary school number 34 in Baku, he was admitted to the oil field faculty of the Azerbaijan Oil and Chemical Institute named after M. Azizbeyov and graduated in 1969. During his studies, he was interested in cinema and theater – he was one of the organizers of the institute’s amateur film studio and the student theater called “Spektr”. In the same year, he entered the correspondence department of the Faculty of Television Directing of the Leningrad State Institute of Theater, Music and Cinematography and graduated in 1974. Since 1970, he has been working as a director in the documentary films association of “Azerbaijanfilm” film studio. While working in the national cinema, he was the director and screenwriter of dozens of documentaries, plots for the satirical film magazine “Mozalan”, the feature television film “My wife, my children”, and chronicled film magazines. From 1984 to 1990, he worked as the secretary of the party organization of the “Azerbaijanfilm” film studio, from 1990 to 1995, as a member of the Central Election Commission. During those years, he worked in various managerial positions in the film studio. In 1973, he became a member of the Union of Cinematographers of the USSR. In 1989, he was awarded the honorary title of Honored Artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan. In 1997-2002, he was the artistic director and director of the “Yaddash” documentary film studio. Since 1998, he has been the secretary of the Union of Cinematographers of Azerbaijan. In 2002-2006, he worked as the director of the cinematography department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and in 2006-2012, he worked as the sector manager of the cinematography department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Since 1999, he has been a member of the Professional Film Directors Guild of Azerbaijan. Jamil Farajov died on August 1, 2023.
