Rafis Ismailov son of  Rza (Rafiz Rza / Rafiz Ismailov) was born in Baku. He studied at the Azerbaijan State Art School named after A. Azimzade – in the course of K. Khanlarov and Abdulkhalig (1962), at the Moscow All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (1966-1972, the workshop of Mikhail Bogdanov, Nemensky and Gennady Myasnikov). He has been working at the “Azerbaijanfilm” film studio since 1972. He was an artist of some performances at the Azerbaijan National Drama Theater, Opera and Ballet Theater, and drew illustrations for books. He is Honored artist (1982), People’s artist (2000). He was awarded the State Award (1978) for the film “Bay of Joy” and the “Golden Fairy” Professional Award of the Azerbaijan Film Academy in the nomination “Best Artist’s Work” for the film “Ambassador of Dawn” (2015). He is a member of the Film Directors Guild of Azerbaijan.

Artist Rafis Ismailov is the brother of director Rasim Ismailov.
