Valery Karimov son of Sultan  was born in Baku. He studied at the cinematography faculty of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (1969-1974). Worked as a laborer in “Bakutuneltikinti” department. Since he was engaged in photography, he changed his job a little later and came to the film studio. He worked here as a lighting assistant and cinematographer assistant. After studying, he made many films as a director of photography. As a director in the “Debut” studio, he directed a short feature film called “Countryman”. Honored artist Valery Karimov died in 1998.

Director of photography Valery Karimov is the husband of sound director Tatyana Karimova.

Director of photography Valery Karimov is the brother of photographer Tofig Karimov.
