Huseyn Mehdiyev
director, screenwriter, director of photography, producer

He was born in Sheki on 19.03.1945. 1962-1967 – studied at the Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute. From 1967 to 1972, he worked as a photojournalist in state newspapers and magazines, mainly in “Gobustan” and “Star” magazines. In 1972-1977, he studied at the Moscow Institute of Cinematography (VQ) at the cinematographer faculty. Since 1977, he has been working as a director of photography at the “Azerbaijanfilm” film studio. Since 1984, he also works as a director. His films, which he created both as a director and as a director of photograaphy, participated at many international film festivals (Berlin, Madrid, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Ankara, Vancouver, Tashkent, Cairo, etc.).
From 1993 to 2001, he worked as the General Director at “Azerkinovideo” PU, which manages the field of cinematography. On this eve, he organized the creation of two important institutions for our cinema: the State Film Fund and the Film Directors Guild. From 1999 to the present, he is the head of the Board of Directors of the Professional Film Directors Guild of Azerbaijan. He was the author and chief of the projects “International Audiovisual Festival” (2001-2008) and “Golden Fairy” Professional Award of Azerbaijan Film Academy (2015-2018). He is an Honored Art Worker of Azerbaijan and a member of the European Cinema Academy.
