Merahim Farzali oglu Farzalibayov was born in Baku. He worked as a student-laboratorian in the creative photo studio of the Union of Journalists, as a cinematographer’s assistant at the Surakhani district culture house, and as the head of the pioneer “Shafaq” drama club at the 26-s Palace of Culture. He studied at the directing faculty of the Leningrad State Institute of Theater, Music and Cinematography (1970-1975, course of Georgy Tovstonogov). He prepared the musical-operetta “Hello Doli” by Michael Stewart and composer Jevri German for performance at the Azerbaijan Musical Comedy Theater as his diploma work. By appointment, he worked as a director at the Mikhail Lermontov State Russian Drama Theater in Grozny (1975-1977). Later, he worked as a chief director at the Sumgayit State Drama Theater (1977-1981), and as a director at the Academic National Drama Theater (1981-2006). For some time, he was the chief director of the Academic National Drama Theater (2006-2010). In the early 1980s, he directed several plays in the Kino-Actor Theater troupe under the “Azerbaijanfilm” film studio. In 2019, Merahim Farzalibayov was awarded the Order of Glory “for his services to the development of Azerbaijani theater art”. Currently, he is the director of the Academic National Drama Theater. Honored artist (1982), People’s artist (2000).
