Oktay Mir Gasim

Oktay Mir Gasim, son of Miresadulla was born in Baku. He studied at the directing faculty of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (1963-1968). His first 4-minute film “Roads” made in 1965 won the first place at the festival held at the Institute. In 1962, he started working as a director’s assistant at the “Azerbaijanfilm” film studio, and continued after his higher education. He is the director and screenwriter of documentaries and feature films. His films received awards at all-Union festivals. The film “Don’t Die Without Revenge” was included in the “Main competition program” of the 13th Anapa “Kinoshock” Film Festival and won the award “Best directorial work of a full-length feature film” at the X Kazan International Muslim Film Festival. Ogtay Mir-Gasim starred as Bekmurad in the Kazakh film “Promised Lands” (2010, directed by Slambek Taukel). He worked as the general director of “Azerkinovideo” Production Union (1993-2001), head of “Yeni Film” Creative Union. He teaches at Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts. People’s artist (2000), “Fame” (2003), “Honor” (2018) ) and the laureate of the “Istiglal” orders.He was awarded the National Cinema Award of the Union of Cinematographers of the Republic of Azerbaijan (2008).

Director Ogtay Mir Gasim is the son of the first president of ANAS, doctor of medical sciences Mir Asadulla Mirgasimov.

Director Ogtay Mir Gasim is the father of actress Ayan Mir Gasim.
