Anar Rzayev son of  Rasul (Anar) was born in Baku. He is the grandson of Khudadat bey Rafibeyli, the first Minister of Health of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and the governor-general of Ganja city. He studied at a 10-year music school (1946-1955, now the school named after Bulbul), at the philology faculty of Azerbaijan State University (1964), at the Higher Directing and Screenwriting Course in Moscow (1970-1972). He started his literary activity in 1952. In 1980, he received the State Prize for the play “Summer Days of the City”. He also has several poems. Songs have been composed to his words. He translated Shakespeare’s “The Tempest”, B. Brecht’s “Galileo Galileo”, R. Tagore’s “The Gardener”, poems by A. Blok, V. Mayakovsky, S. Yesenin, and B. Pasternak into Azerbaijani. His plays were staged in all theaters of Azerbaijan, in Miniature Theater in Moscow, Academic State Theaters in Kazan, Chisinau, Mukimi Theater in Tashkent, as well as in Poland, Bulgaria, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russian cities. In 1991, Anar was given the honor of opening and conducting the first session of the Milli Majlis of independent Azerbaijan. In 1995 and 2000, he was elected a member of the Milli Majlis. He chaired the cultural commission in the parliament. He is a member of the Constitutional Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Chairman of Azerbaijan Writers’ Union (since 1991). Based on his scripts and works, foreign cinematographers’films-“Every evening at eleven” (1969, directed by Samson Samsonov / Russia), “Old actor” (2004, directed by Fevzi Tuna), “And the phone” (Turkey) were shot.He is Honored art worker(1976), People’s writer. He was awarded the Azerbaijan State Prize, “Independence” (1998), “Fame”, “Honor” orders, “Heydar Aliyev Prize”, “Humay” prize, honorary diploma of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
